Not only does mulch suppress weeds and prevent moisture loss, it offers a low maintenance solution and an attractive feature to any garden. A two to three inch layer of mulch will protect plant roots from excessive exposure to sunlight in summer months, and extreme frost during winter months, aswell as retaining moisture and increasing drainage.
Mulch is organic, therefore it will decay over a period of time and become part of the topsoil, therfore providing a natural source of nutrients for plants, eliminating the need for expensive chemical plant feeds.
These days bonfires are a rarity, almost all waste material generated by our work is processed via a woodchipper, as shown above. It is recycled into woodmulch which can be used by the customer or taken away, composted and sold for gardens or path/play surfaces. Timber is also used for a variety of purposes from firewood to fencing, very little is wasted.
Alternative options for disposal of arisings:
. Burning - Requires space, may upset the neighbours, less costly, may not be allowed (smokeless zone).
. Stacking on site - Room needed, good for wildlife habitat, firewood/kindling, kinder to the environment.
. Removal from site - Most expensive, least environmentally friendly, site free of arisings on completion.
